Dr. Rajesh Patel joined Center for Colon & Digestive Disease in November of 1992.
He was born and raised in Nakuru, Kenya. Following his undergraduate education at Louisiana College in Pineville, Louisiana, he attended medical school at St. Georges University School of Medicine in the West Indies and did a year of clinical clerkship in England.
He then went to New Orleans, Louisiana, where he pursued an internship in psychiatry and neurology followed by a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in gastroenterology at Tulane University School of Medicine. During his years at Tulane University, he was involved in several research projects, and a poster presentation at the American Gastroenterology Association meeting in San Antonio, Texas, in 1990.
He is currently board certified in both internal medicine and gastroenterology and is a member of the Southern Medical Association.
Dr. Patel met his wife, Janeen, while he was an intern at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. Following his fellowship in gastroenterology in 1990, he and his wife moved to Huntsville to work at Central North Alabama Health Services as part of a two year public health obligation which was sponsored by the Appalachian Regional Commission. Dr. Patel and his wife are quite happy with Huntsville and its people and have settled down here. They have two daughters. They both enjoy cooking and traveling.
